New memoir "Reservations for Nine" by Dr. George Beauregard is released, the harrowing and heroic story of a doctor’s family battling cancer and loss with inspiring resilience

Reservations for Nine: A Doctor’s Family Confronts Cancer, by Dr. George Beauregard, has been released worldwide. This 263-page memoir tells the simultaneously hopeful and heartbreaking story of the Beauregard family’s experiences with cancer, from the author’s diagnosis of advanced-stage early-onset bladder cancer to his son Patrick’s shocking diagnosis of early-onset colon cancer a few short years later.

Chronicling life through his own and Patrick’s cancer battles with honesty and the insights of a medical professional, Beauregard offers a multifaceted perspective that includes both scientific explanations and deeply personal reflection. From the throes of grief to exciting new research findings, to coping mechanisms for loss, to the family’s journey into advocacy work, this poignant story shows the growth and goodness that can come from loss while describing the pain along the way.

The book continues the family’s campaign to raise awareness about the importance of colorectal cancer screening and research, as well as the rising incidence of early-onset cancer (EOC). Patrick, who appeared on The Today Show, in 2020, to share his story, is the namesake of a foundation dedicated to beating colorectal cancer, and his story – particularly the tenacity with which he fought and the hope he provided to others – remains an inspiration and example for others facing similar disease challenges.

Dr. Beauregard’s writing serves to further preserve his son’s legacy and raise much-needed awareness of the rising incidence of EOCs. It is aimed at encouraging further funding, research, and access to lifesaving EOC detection and treatment.

This family drama and medical saga is an emotional and informative tale of highs and lows, a story of victory and tragedy that inspires readers to never give up. Dr.Beauregard reminds readers of all backgrounds and experiences that in dire circumstances, positivity, resilience, and family love can improve anyone’s quality of life.

About the book:

The book is a combined memoir and medical saga of one large family’s multi-year battle with cancer, with a victory and a tragedy. Although it describes the unusual circumstance of a family in which a physician father and a son were stricken by advanced-stage, early-onset cancers, the book primarily focuses on the inspiring story of the son, who--at age 29--was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and fought valiantly for 3 years before succumbing at 32. The son’s diagnosis reflected an alarming development--the global rise of cancer in younger people. The book is framed to be helpful to cancer sufferers and their families, and offers wide information about the science behind cancer and its treatment--past, present, and possible future. It also chronicles the harsh experience of undergoing treatment, which was faced with extraordinary courage. The book deals with family, love, loss, science, and spirituality.
