Dr. Minor began his pursuits in higher education with an associate degree in nursing from Lake Land College, a public community college located in Mattoon, Illinois. He further prepared himself for his career in nursing by acquiring a bachelor's degree in nursing from Western Governors University, a private university based in Millcreek, Utah.
Later in his career, Dr. Minor would return to his educational journey and establish himself as a scholar in his field. In 2019, he earned a Master of Science in nursing from Chamberlain University, a private health care and nursing school. Building upon his expertise, he earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in health care systems leadership from the same institution in 2021.
Dr. Minor's Career in Nursing and Health Care Leadership
Dr. Minor has dedicated over 17 years of his life to his career as a nurse and leader in the health care field. From 2014 to 2020, he worked as a critical care registered nurse at Sarah Bush Lincoln, a health center in Mattoon, Illinois. He later transitioned into various supervisory and leadership positions. He worked as a nursing supervisor from 2018 to 2020, as an emergency department patient care leader from 2020 to 2021 and as the director of critical care and respiratory therapy from 2021 to 2022.
During Dr. Minor's tenure as the director of critical care and respiratory therapy, the health center, like many other hospitals, faced great challenges and high patient loads due to the pandemic. He worked tirelessly to keep his team engaged and quickly set up a secondary intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital.
In 2022, Dr. Minor obtained the position of emergency services manager at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. He transitioned into his current position as director of emergency services in 2024. His daily duties involve hiring emergency department staff to build cohesive teams and preparing all necessary policies, guaranteeing the hospital meets all regulatory requirements for accreditation.
Dr. Minor is additionally responsible for operationalizing the emergency department at the new acute care hospital for Houston Methodist Cypress, which is set to open in March 2025.
In addition to his career as a nurse and leader in health care, Dr. Minor has contributed to nursing scholarship and knowledge in the field. He has taught as a nursing professor at both the associate and bachelor's levels, totaling six years of teaching clinical and classroom nursing courses.
Dr. Minor's scholarly contributions further include a published research study on the blood sampling of midline catheters, which demonstrated the method's safety and reliability compared to standard venipuncture. In April 2024, he was invited to present his research as a keynote speaker at the Unite Scientific Nursing Conference in Munich, Germany.
Dr. Minor's Career Achievements and Aspirations
In recognition of his service in health care and his exceptional work in his field, Dr. Minor was awarded the President's Award in 2016. In 2022, he received the 40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders Award from the Illinois Nurses Foundation.
