Veterinary Dentistry Specialists® Opens New Practice Near the Twin Cities

The fifth location in the VDS network provides advanced oral care for pets by board-certified veterinary specialists in dentistry and anesthesia

Veterinary Dentistry Specialists® (VDS), a specialty practice for pets in need of advanced oral care, has opened its fifth location at 8480 Woodbury Crossing, Suite 130, Woodbury, MN 55125. Board-certified veterinary dentist, Alexander Adrian, DVM, DAVDC, and board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist, Erin Wendt-Hornickle, DVM, DACVAA, are co-owners of the practice, along with VDS founder, Carlos A. Rice, DVM, DAVDC.

VDS is the only veterinary dentistry practice in the nation where full-time board-certified veterinary specialists in dentistry and anesthesiology work together with each patient to ensure optimal care. This unique combination of expertise, along with five-star service, provides the safest, most comfortable, and best possible outcome for each patient.

While oral health issues are prevalent in most pets, there are only approximately 230 active board-certified veterinary dentists and 348 board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists in the United States.

Dr. Adrian earned his veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. After a brief time as an associate veterinarian in Minnesota, he completed his residency at Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists, where he ultimately became the Medical Director. During that time, he earned Diplomate status from the American Veterinary Dental College. Learn more here.

“I find great satisfaction in the immediate and often transformative improvement in the quality of life we achieve by treating oral diseases and injuries in pets. Each patient is different, and the hands-on, problem-solving nature of our work makes me excited to come in every day,” said Dr. Adrian. “VDS is known for providing the high-quality treatment and exceptional service that I seek when my pets require care, and I’m excited to bring this unique dentistry and anesthesia partnership to Minnesota.”

Dr. Wendt-Hornickle earned her veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. Her post-graduate training included a Small Animal Rotating Internship at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, followed by a Residency in Anesthesia and Analgesia at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. She then earned Diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia & Analgesia. Learn more here.

“Anesthesiology allows me to apply my knowledge of complex physiology and pharmacology during a pet’s most vulnerable time. This expertise, combined with preparation for potential complications, ensures patient safety – one of my top priorities,” said Dr. Wendt-Hornickle. “Many pets requiring dental or periodontal care are geriatric or have complicated medical histories. At VDS, I’m able to provide specialty-level, individualized care to these patients who may otherwise forgo treatment.”
