PCI-SIG® Announces PCIe® Optical Interconnect Solution

Revision to PCIe 6.4 and PCIe 7.0 specifications provide the industry’s first standard-based PCIe optical solution targeting AI, Cloud and Data Center Applications

PCI-SIG^® today announced a new optical interconnect specification revision to enable higher PCI Express^® (PCIe^®) technology performance. The Optical Aware Retimer Engineering Change Notice (ECN) amends the PCIe 6.4 specification and the new PCIe 7.0 specification to include a PCIe retimer-based solution, providing the first industry standardized way to implement PCIe technology over optical fiber.
