The Guardian recently reported that between 2010 and 2023, there was a huge rise in anxiety and depression among teenagers - notable in part because it coincides with widespread smartphone adoption and social media use. In response, Mission Prep has developed a results-backed approach to helping teens break free from addiction and reduce anxiety.

A spokesperson states: "Our center provides a safe environment where you can receive the support and guidance you need to thrive. You'll benefit from a range of programs and services, and our expert team is dedicated to helping you overcome obstacles - creating a strong foundation that helps you eliminate anxiety now and in the future."

Teens take part in surf therapy twice a month, and can also attend weekly Rock to Recovery music sessions and choose outings once or twice weekly to places like movies, arcades, skate parks, and beaches. The goal is to help reduce stress and build confidence, but also make therapy more approachable for those who might otherwise resist treatment.

This will be balanced with two individual therapy sessions, one family therapy session, and two clinical mentor sessions each week. Teens who need additional support can access EMDR therapy for trauma and weekly individual art therapy when recommended by clinicians.

At Mission Prep, teens live in houses with six beds and double rooms, creating a calm environment that feels less institutional. They are allowed to keep their phones and instruments such as guitars.

Mission Prep takes a realistic approach to technology rather than cutting teens off completely: staff supervise smartphone and laptop use during appropriate clinical sessions and dedicated Tech Time groups. Teens can also make daily ten-minute phone calls to approved contacts.

The team offers practical support for arrival and departure, with transportation available from nearby airports, allowing for a more stress-free experience.
