A UK woman is appealing for public support to fund a potentially life-extending treatment for her partner, who has been diagnosed with glioblastoma.

-- Asta Pratapaviciene has launched a public GoFundMe fundraiser titled “You’re My Only Hope“ to support her partner Raimondas, who was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, a fast-growing and aggressive form of brain cancer. The campaign aims to raise £100,000 to access specialised private treatment that may offer a chance beyond the limited options available through standard care.

Glioblastoma is the most common type of cancerous brain tumour in adults, with around 3,200 cases diagnosed each year in the UK. It grows rapidly and is notoriously difficult to treat, often causing symptoms such as seizures, vision loss, headaches, and speech problems. The tumour wraps itself around vital brain tissue, making surgical removal nearly impossible.
According to The Brain Tumour Charity, the average survival time after diagnosis is 12 to 18 months. Only 20 per cent of patients survive more than one year, and fewer than three per cent make it past three years. While some long-term survivors exist, these cases remain rare, highlighting the urgent need for access to more specialised treatment options that could offer a better outcome.
Raimondas’s diagnosis has upended the life he and Asta spent eight years building together. What began as a shared second chance after difficult divorces has now become a daily battle with uncertainty. Besides the emotional toll, the cost of treatment has placed a heavy financial strain on the couple.
While the NHS provides standard treatment, Asta says the options currently available are not enough. “After a lot of research, I learnt that traditional treatments like radiotherapy and chemotherapy are often ineffective for this type of cancer,” she said. “There is, however, hope in a specialised private treatment that targets Raimondas’s specific cancer - but the cost is far beyond what we can afford.”
At the time of writing, over 140 donors have contributed more than £6,000 to the fundraiser. Donations are protected under the GoFundMe Giving Guarantee, which offers full donor protection for one year, regardless of location.
“Raimondas is full of life, dreams, and love, and he’s not ready to give up. Neither am I,” Asta said. “Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to giving him a fighting chance.”
